Please use my proven, best means of engine shut down.
I pull up to the stop in low gear (and leave in low gear)---pull in the clutch, while also holding the front break, then I put both feet down, while also extending the kick stand. NOW THE ENGINE STOPS (without a backfire). Besides not having a backfire, having the bike parked in low gear, is a good deterrent, to not having the bike roll down hill and off the stand!
I dismount, then from off of the cycle, I remove the ignition key and put it into my pocket. Note I have the fork lock key and a cable lock key on the same fob, to add a little bulk that I can feel and find it in my pocket. I also Carry an extra cycle key on my other key ring with the house keys. The house keys ALWAYS GO INTO RIGHT POCKET, THE CYCLE KEYS ALWAYS GO INTO LEFT POCKET!!
As posted earlier my ignition switch has been altered so that both left and right position are off, no dreaded parking light potential mistake. I cut and taped the wire, that allowed a stupid trouble making ligh-on situation!!!
